Description
Participants will be treated to an exclusive private home and garden tour of one of Hilo’s most influential families of the past century. Tour the Shipman Estate with its spectacular landscape and architecture. Guests will enjoy gazing at the lush tropical gulch lined with magnificent stands of palms, bamboo and ferns. The tour of the beautiful interior of the “Castle”, which includes much of the original furniture, is just stunning. Participants will see the piano that Hawaii’s last queen, Lili’uokalani, delighted in playing music on. Guests will dine on the beautiful veranda where stunning views and sounds of the waterfall will encompass their senses.
Experience Hula from the Inside where our cultural practitioner will demonstrate how traditional instruments are used in hula. We’ll showcase special Hawaiian dance costumes, and share the inside story about the arduous preparations of the hula dancers. Learn about Hawaiian bark cloth, bamboo stamping, Hawaiian fiber, shells, forest greenery, leis, and natural dyes through demonstrations and presentations revolving around Hawaiian gathering practices.
