The average day at the University of Hawaii at Hilo Conference Center is filled with a variety of activities. In order to maintain our work pace, I snack every 10 minutes on organic munchies which include raw almonds, tofu dip, kombucha tea, and left-overs.
Seriously, although we may be super-hyper, our connection to the ‘aina (land), our relationships with our Kupuna (grand-parents & respected elders), and our devotion to the Hawaiian culture are the dominating principles upon which our travel education programs are based.
The Big Island of Hawai“i is an incredibly diverse learning laboratory which attracts personalities who are looking for the real deal – the authentic travel experience, and a dynamic and innovative learning environment. This unique, isolated environment is the prime location for scientific exploration in renewable energy and sustainability.
Facilitating this introduction and interaction of our program participants to the culture and authenticity of Hawai‘i is a privilege for us, and a service which we consistently strive to improve by revisiting our roots, while adapting to the unpredictable nature of the world economy.
As the focus of our social awareness turns towards sustainable practices, we have an opportunity to share our programs with an evolving tourism industry. As an IT Manager, I am an advocate of information technology and believe that streamlining processes for effective communication and data management are key components to successful program implementation. As we leverage the internet to increase our efficiency and effectiveness, we are able to spend more time connecting with nature, doing the things that we love, and even participating in our own alternative tourism adventures!
After hours, you might find me meditating on a rock on the coastline in Keaukaha, watching whales while the sun sets, or attending a Vinyasa Yoga class. My favorite foods include Japanese, Hawaiian, Thai, Indian, and Mexican.
As a former drummer & vocalist, I have played in Jazz, R&B, Pop, Rock, and Punk bands in various countries. Tone, frequency, and resonance are the universal languages which express our diversity and our collective soul at once.
