Dan Lindsay

Living in paradise. . . a lifelong dream that both Dan and His wife, Susan, made a reality when they moved to the island of Hawaii in 2000!   After both retired from their teaching careers in the Seattle, WA area, the trip to Hawaii was the second step of realizing their dream.

Dan and Susan have a total of six children and 4 grandchildren. According to both of the, “we spend a lot of time visitng and being visited.”

Dan has been an avid birder from the age of 10 and had his first birding experience in the islands in 1980.  His birding expeditions have taken him to Mexico, Thailand and Japan as well as all over the U.S. mainland. He has since birded in the islands with Doug Pratt, Reggie David and David Kuhn, who are among the most knowledgeable birders in the state.  His trips in the company of these notable birders have provided him a wealth of knowledge and expertise.  Dan is a long-time member of both the American Birding Association and Hawaii Audubon Society.

Since the launching of the Elderhostel Birding program in 2001, Dan continues to be integrally involved with program development, schedules and site selections based on comments and suggestions from the participants and staff.
